Wow that was so touching... I was an anorexic when I was 14 and you're right I was doing it for attention. I wanted to be the perfect everything, up to the point when my body rebeled against me. Keep writing, I will follow your blog :)

Ashley,
That means so much to me. Because I've really had to push myself to write this--because I'm private by nature, and I feel uncertain about the propriety, where my own boundaries lie. But what I keep coming back to is the fact that we're all in this together. We get stronger when we share our experiences, and we get weaker when we deny them. I think that's what storytelling's about, connecting to other people through the sharing of experience. And it's not worth doing unless you give freely and give big.
So thanks so much for your generous feedback. It helps when I get anxious.

And an audience is starved to see their rawness, their secrets, reflected back at them. The story may be anorexic, but the tenderness of the words nurture the soul, fulfilling a hunger of a different sort.
